Please install the latest version of the free Adobe Flash Player
This sentence might be familiar to you if you have tried watching a streaming video, entering a website or trying out certain programs on the Internet using devices running on IOS. Why doesn’t Apple add in Flash support to make web browsing seamless ?

Six reasons why Apple doesn’t adopt Adobe Flash:

  1. Open
    - Open standards allows web developer creates advanced graphic without the need to rely on third-party programs like Adobe Flash.
  2. Full Web
    - Although 75% of video is running on adobe flash, many videos are currently viewable in a modern format named H.264 on iDevices.
  3. Poor reliability, security and performance
    - Adobe Flash is being highlighted by Symantec that it has the worst security records in 2009. This is one of the reasons why Mac crashes often.
  4. Battery Life
    - Decodes flash materials in software tends to drain battery life faster.
  5. Touch
    - Most Flash related websites rely on “rollover” which is designed for the use of a mouse. iDevice doesn’t require the use of mouse hence the concept of “rollover” does not exist.
  6. Hindering enhancement and progress
    - Do not want to be at the mercy of enhancements available to developers when third party adopts new features (because Adobe Flash is closed and proprietary). HTML5, the new web standard that has been adopted by Apple and many others, is one the main reasons why iOS does not include flash.

In my opinion, Adobe Flash for iOS is not needed because most video are being formatted to H.264 and it is a matter of time mobile devices are Flash-free.

Many of you might be wondering if you should change into Facebook Timeline. Guess what? I am also wondering if I should do it.

Although you are a happy Facebook user without using Timeline, it’s interesting to know what’s new in Timeline.

There are 3 main components. Your Cover, your Stories and your Apps.

Your cover is the first thing which catches the viewer’s attention, a cover is like a large piece of rectangular banner which takes up the upper layer of your Facebook profile.

For stories, it is like normal posts but however it is organized in a chronological order such that when you are scrolling down, you will have the feeling that you are actually scrolling into the life of the user as it is very detailed and is going down in a timeline.

In your stories section, you can also highlight your top photos and stories.

And lastly for the apps section, which lies at the bottom part of the page. The apps section basically display the recent applications you have used.

My conclusion is that you can give it a try or you may want to  get more reviews from your friends as different people have different taste for Facebook timeline. Personally, I find that it is hard to change back to the original profile (needs many steps). Hence, I suggest a serious consideration is to be made before upgrading into Facebook Timeline.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a system that integrates all the systems/functions into a single system in a common database, designed to serve the needs of each different department within the enterprise.

There are many different systems in a large company’s “back office,” such as planning system, manufacturing system, distribution system, shipping system and accounting system. Imagine all the systems are standalone and all data are not sharable. As such, EPR was introduced to solve this problem, with an objective to integrate all these systems into one system.

Advantages of ERP Systems

  • An integrated ERP system collaborate all the functional areas together
  • The ability to communicate information across various departments
  • Improved efficiency, performance and productivity levels
  • Enhanced tracking and forecasting
  • Improved customer service and satisfaction

Disadvantages of ERP Systems

  • ERP systems can be extremely expensive to implement
  • Training required to make the system work correctly, inadequate education in ERP might cause personnel can’t operate it efficiently
  • Security issue

The growing information needs and integration of system are the main reasons for improvement or replacement of old systems. With ERP, an organization runs all of its core functional applications from a single database. Each functional unit of a company such as finance & marketing uses its own supporting applications within the same ERP. However, ERP is not necessary the only solution to consider as the cost to implement ERP is very expensive, which easily amounts more than $100K.

In 2011 itself, in only few months apart, Mozilla already released 3 new versions,  i.e. Firefox 5, 6 and 7. These versions differ only on smaller incremental updates, primarily on the improving speed, stability and security.

Released on September 27th 2011, Firefox 7 focuses on improving memory consumption and performance.

New features in Firefox 7 consist of:

  • Lesser memory usage. Memory usage is now cut down (as much as 50% lesser) and Firefox 7 is able to free up memory by closing tabs, which was not possible previously.
  • Improved rendering performance.  Azure Direct2D allows quick rendering of HTML5 canvas operations.
  • Quick retrieval of bookmarks. With Firefox Sync, now bookmarks and passwords sync almost instantly between different computers that you used
  • Shorter display of web link. “http://” URL prefix is now removed from the address bar. However, some users prefer this to be added back, or have it be optional, not just completely gone.
  • Better logging. Includes the option to send back telemetry data / memory usage statistics to Mozilla. E.g. the CPU and RAM load, interface responsiveness, startup speed.
  • Updated Websocket for HTML5. The WebSocket protocol has been updated from version 7 to version 8.
